YMCA of Greater Indianapolis

The Heritage Club
The Heritage Club is an organization of people who have demonstrated their long-term interest and support of the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis either by a direct contribution to the Endowment Fund or by including the YMCA in their estate plans.

Its Purpose
The YMCA Heritage Club’s purpose is to encourage thoughtful gifts as a primary means of building a strong endowment that provides lasting support for the YMCA’s mission. The Heritage Club also recognizes members whose leadership, service and devotion to the YMCA have created this legacy.

Becoming a Member
Membership in the Heritage Club requires a commitment which now, or in the future, will add to the Endowment of the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis.  In the case of a will or other deferred gift, the amount need not be revealed, but if a donor chooses to do so, it will aid our long-range planning, allow us to acknowledge the gift at its present value and credit the donor appropriately.

A variety of gifts qualify for Heritage Club membership, including those which allow a donor to make a significant contribution and receive life income and/or tax advantages:

  • An Outright Gift of cash, securities or property.
  • A Charitable Remainder Trust—Gifts with life income retained by the donor.
  • Gifts of Life Insurance—Naming the YMCA as beneficiary or owner of the policies.
  • A Will Bequest designating the YMCA for a specific amount or a percentage of the donor’s estate.
  • Memorial Gifts honoring a loved one through the establishment of a short or long-term memorial endowment fund.

Estate gifts supporting the YMCA Endowment Fund may be undesignated or directed to a specific branch or program.

The Endowment Fund
The YMCA of Greater Indianapolis established its Endowment in 1924. Delevan Smith and J.E. Roberts each gave $10,000 to establish a tradition of giving that continues today. The Endowment ensures the future of YMCA programs, ensuring they are accessible to those who need them most regardless of ability to pay.

Investment Management
The Board of Trustees for the YMCA Foundation of Greater Indianapolis and the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis Board of Directors has overall responsibility for managing the preservation, growth and use of Y endowment funds. The YMCA's Investment Committee, along with a professional fund manager, delegates responsibility for the investment of these gifts.
